Cats vs. dogs: the never-ending rivalry that keeps giving us memes.

Only a few online debates last as long as the one between cat and dog lovers. On one side, we have the lovely doggos: loyal, loving companions who welcome their hoomans like big heroes every single day, no matter what. On the opposite, cats are independent masterminds: they plan and choose when to have their very sporadic and very few moments of affection. The internet, as you can imagine, has made this friendly rivalry a never-ending source of comedy.

Most people relate to these types of memes because they are based on behavior. Anyone who has a dog can confirm they are huge people pleasers and are eager to satisfy, even if they are playing on their own, or maybe learning a new trick. Cats, on the other hand, couldn't care less about people and just want to be left alone with their own thoughts. Now, if you put those personalities side by side, the jokes practically write themselves.

Every pet owner knows that truth is a bit more complex than this, of course. Because, although we can have that generally appreaciation of each species, every animal is different. We can think that cats are independent, and later meet one that is super clingy and affectionate, or even meet a dog that is stubborn, dramatic, and more selective. But hey, stereotypes are here for a reason, and that is what meme creators take when creating a couple of funny pieces about this topic. For them, a dog will always be an overly excited best friend, and a cat is a tiny furry landlord collecting emotional rent.

I think that the best part of this rivalry is that there is no winner. Both animals are endlessly entertaining (especially on the internet), and it doesn't matter if they are lying in bed, demanding love and snacks, or plotting chaos. That is the reason why I appreciate cat vs. dog memes so much: because they will never go out of style. As long as we, humans, continue to have pets that act like comedians with very big and different personalities, then the internet will keep finding new and unique ways to laugh at this love-hate relationship.

One may want personal space, while the other wants constant affection.
